5 Things to Do: February 3 - 5

Wait a minute—what did the groundhog say?

No matter—We've got great ideas to keep you entertained this weekend, indoors or out:

U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition
Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5
Lake Geneva

This is not your average snowman building contest—teams from across the United States converge on the shores of Geneva Lake for one weekend to create some of the most beautiful snow sculptures you'll ever see. It's well-worth a day trip north of the border.

The Chinese Dragon Acrobats
Saturday, February 4
North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, Skokie

Forget to celebrate the Chinese New Year last weekend? There's no better way to make up for it than catching a mesmerizing performance by this highly entertaining troupe.

Randolph Street Winter Market
Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5
Chicago

Shop 'til you drop at the Randolph Street Winter Market's indoor home, inside Plumbers Hall. In addition to funky finds, you can have your purchase appraised, get art restoration advice, and porcelain repair estimates, all on site!

Ecology Center Market
Saturday, February 4
Evanston

No need to wait for summer for fresh goodies from a farmers' market—the Evanston Environmental Center sponsors a market each Saturday, with a number of great vendors.

Nature Discovery Day
Saturday, February 4
Heller Nature Center, Highland Park

Are you really going to let a fuzzy little varmit keep you from getting outdoors? Ignore that Groundhog and join friends and family at Heller for outdoor adventures and a roaring campfire. (Marshmallows, too!)

Wait! There's more ...

Family Fun at Westfield Old Orchard—It's a great time to sneak in some shopping with the little ones in tow—make-and-take crafts, along with storytime, make shopping fun for everyone.

Monthly Photo Walk—If you fancy yourself a nature photographer, take advantage of Chicago Botanic Garden's monthly walk, where experts are on hand to help make your photos even better.
