Kudos! Make It Better’s Award-Winning Articles

Make It Better’s Associate Editor, Liz Logan, received a writing award from the National Federation of Press Women and two First Place awards  in the 2010 Communications Contest of the Illinois Woman’s Press Association.

 

 

In the IWPA contest, Liz won First Place in the category “Writing for the Web and Online Newsletters” for her article “Teen Therapy: Depression Finds Unlikely Advocate in Wilmette Teen,” which was published in a three-part series on teen therapy.

Liz also won Third Place in the same category for another article in the series: “Teen Therapy: 4 Common Pitfalls and How to Troubleshoot Them.”

Liz took First Place in the category “Special Articles—Hobby or Crafts” for two articles she wrote for Make It Better’s “Together” department, about activities that bring together families and communities. The articles were “Joyful and Triumpant” (about Christmas caroling) and “How to Build Bridges with Books” (about mother-daughter book clubs). These articles then went on to win a Third Place award from the National Federation of Press Women.

Liz’s other awards were: Second Place in “Personality Profile—500 Words of Fewer” for “Now That’s a Monster Cookie Maker,” and Second Place in “Special Articles—Business” for her column “Fresh: What’s New and Hot on the North Shore,” and Second Place in “Feature Story—Publication, Magazine, Supplement” for “Finish Line.”

Liz is a graduate of the master’s program at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern. Before she joined Make It Better, Liz's writing appeared in Time, the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Time Out Chicago, among other places. She is an avid baker.
